HC Deb 15 August 1887 vol 319 c489
SIR HENRY TYLEE (Great Yarmouth)

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty, Whether he would now, as a special test of existing vessels (without waiting for others hereafter to be constructed or taken over), require any two of the most recent and powerful ships in Her Majesty's Service to undertake four days' continuous steaming at full speed?

THE FIRST LORD (Lord GEORGE HAMILTON) (Middlesex, Ealing)

Orders have already been given for eight typical ships of recent construction to carry out the full-power trial referred to. Of these, up to the present time, the Phaeton and Mutine are the only ships that have reported. In both cases the trials have been satisfactory. The other ships will report as their trials are completed.
