HC Deb 10 September 1886 vol 309 c12
DR. TANNER (Cork Co., Mid)

asked the President of the Local Government Board, Whether it is a fact that certificates of proficiency in vaccination can only be issued in Great Britain, by public vaccinators appointed by the Local Government Board; what is the number and distribution of these public vaccinators; and, whether any are appointed in and for Ireland?

THE PRESIDENT (Mr. RITCHIE) (Tower Hamlets, St. George's)

The certificates of proficiency in vaccination required as part of the qualifications for the appointment of public vaccinator in England can only be obtained at certain educational vaccination stations, which are subject to the inspection of the Local Government Board. Twenty public vaccinators in Great Britain have been authorized to grant such certificates; the stations being at London, Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. The Board have in the present year been applied to to authorize the grant of such certificates at Dublin, and have expressed their willingness to do so upon certain arrangements being made in order to assimilate the practice with regard to the issue of certificates throughout the United Kingdom. Steps are now being taken for this purpose.
