asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether, having reference to the recent failure of a 43-ton gun, there was any particular fault in that individual gun, or whether there was any exceptional cause for its bursting; and, if not, what steps Her Majesty's Government propose to adopt to prevent guns from being constructed and issued which are not safe or fit to be fired with ordinary service charges?

I cannot at present say more than that a most careful inquiry will be made into the cause or causes of the failure of the gun referred to.
