HC Deb 06 May 1886 vol 305 cc368-9
SIR GUYER HUNTER (Hackney, Central)

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether the Treasury has come to any decision in the case of the Civil Service writers; if not, when it may reasonably be looked for?

MR BAZLEY WHITE (Gravesend)

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, Whether the exact date can now be given when the new regulations concerning the future position of Civil Service writers will come into operation; and, if not, considering the promises given from time to time by him, at what probable future date such information can be granted?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. HENRY H. FOWLER) (Wolverhampton, E.)

I can only refer the hon. Members who have asked Questions 8 and 12 to the answers which I gave on the same subject to the hon. Members for Camberwell and East Donegal, respectively, on the 29th of March and 9th of April. I can assure the House that the question of the Civil Service writers is receiving the most careful attention of the Treasury; but I cannot undertake to fix the date at which the decision of the Treasury will be arrived at.
