HC Deb 08 March 1886 vol 303 c109
MR. HARRIS (Galway, E.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether the works which were being carried on near the town of Ballinasloe, with the object of improving the drainage of the River Suck, are suspended; and, if so, whether the Government will urge the Suck Drainage Board to recommence the works, as there is great distress in that town and district at present, owing to the want of employment?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. HENRY H. FOWLER) (Wolverhampton, E.)

Perhaps the hon. Member will allow me to answer the Question. The works in question are under the control of the Drainage Board. The works were not long ago suspended in consequence of the death of the engineer, and the necessity for the appointment of fresh officers. The work will shortly be resumed.
