HC Deb 15 May 1885 vol 298 cc613-4
MR. O'KELLY

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether it is true that Sub-Inspector Ball, with a party of police, searched the house of Mr. John O'Rourke for arms at Red Hill, Newport, county Mayo, on the 21st of April 1884; whether, on that occasion, Sub-Inspector Ball carried off several letters, which have not since been restored to their owner; and, whether there is now any objection to restore the letters in question to Mr. O'Rourke?

MR. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

I understand that there will now be no objection to restoring these letters, which were seized on account of their suspicious character.
