HC Deb 08 May 1885 vol 298 c16
MR. O'SULLIVAN

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, What action (if any) was taken by the Local Government Board against the boards of guardians in Ireland under section 10 of the Labourers (Ireland) Act who failed to carry out the Act, or to pass a resolution to the effect that they would not proceed with such scheme?

MR. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

The power of the Local Government Board in the circumstances referred to is limited to directing a local inquiry if they think it necessary. There have only been two cases in which the Board have received remonstrances against the decision of the Guardians; and after correspondence they have not thought it necessary to take any further action.
