HC Deb 10 March 1885 vol 295 cc616-7
MR. MUNRO-FERGUSON

asked the Vice President of the Committee of Council, Whether the Report of Mr. Craik on Schools in the Highlands, dated 30th October 1884, has yet been under consideration; whether any of Mr. Craik's recommendations will be embodied in the Code of 1885; and, whether there is any prospect of relief being afforded to the present heavy burthen of the rates; and, if so, in what manner?

MR. MUNDELLA

The whole question of education in the Highlands is at present under consideration, and will be dealt with very shortly. We intend to accomplish as much as possible through the Code, and we hope that legislation will not be required.
