HC Deb 17 July 1885 vol 299 cc1055-6
MR. STEWART MACLIVER

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty, If the promised concession to Chief Engineers of the Navy, enabling them to rank with Lieutenants, has been sufficiently considered to be announced?

THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. RITCHIE),

in reply, said, he thought the hon. Member was mistaken in speaking of promised concessions. He certainly made no promise of any concessions, nor did he find any record of such a promise by the late Government. All that was promised was an investigation. That investigation was taking place, and the result ho would communicate as early as possible.
