HC Deb 24 February 1885 vol 294 c1162
CAPTAIN AYLMER

asked the Under Secretary of State for India, Whether the Government have received particulars of the Treaty stated to have been made between France and Burmah; if so, whether it is a purely Commercial Treaty, or connected with the political situation; also, whether this country is represented at the Court of Mandalay?

MR. J. K. CROSS

This country is not now represented at the Court of Mandalay. The Treaty between France and Burmah has not yet been ratified in the French Chamber; but M. Ferry has furnished Her Majesty's Government with a copy of the Convention, which appears to be a purely commercial one. It is supplementary to the Treaty, signed in Paris on January 29, 1873, but not put in force till June 1 last, which established between France and Burmah a mutual right to accredit Diplomatic and Consular Representatives.
