HC Deb 20 February 1885 vol 294 cc907-8
SIR JOHN HAY

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty, If he will state what progress has been made in the building of the additional ironclads and other vessels promised for the Navy in November?

SIR THOMAS BRASSEY

With regard to vessels being built under contract, I have nothing to add to the answer which I gave to the right hon. Member for Westminster (Mr. W. H. Smith) yesterday. With regard to ironclad vessels being built in the Dockyards, the grants of wages have been increased; and on the Estimates I hope to be able to show that satisfactory progress has been made.
