HC Deb 14 April 1885 vol 296 cc1627-8
MR. BULWER

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether it is a fact that the number of soldiers serving at home admitted to hospital for venereal disease has, during the past year, largely increased, and is still increasing; and, whether he has any objection to lay upon the Table of the House a Return similar in form and detail to, and in continuation of, that presented to the House on the 3rd of March, 1884, showing the number of soldiers admitted to hospital for venereal disease since the end of the year 1883?

SIR ARTHUR HAYTER

There has been an increase of admissions to hospital for the cause referred to in the districts formerly protected from 110 per 1,000, in 1883, to 135 per 1,000 in 1884. The Return in continuation of that presented in 1884 can be given if the hon. and learned Member will move for it.

MR. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

I wish to ask, whether, in the Return about to be laid upon the Table, the War Office will distinguish between the various forms of venereal disease, so as to show the proportions in which the soldiers have been affected during the past year?

SIR ARTHUR HAYTER

I will make inquiry.
