HC Deb 24 November 1884 vol 294 c256
MR. LEAMY

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether the Education Commissioners have yet made arrangements for the grant of increased pay to the teachers in the Convent National Schools; and, if not, when such arrangement is likely to be made?

MR. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

It has already been more than once stated, in reply to Questions on this subject, that in the event of the Treasury consenting to any arrangement involving increased expenditure it could not take effect during the current financial year. The matter is engaging the careful attention of the Government.

MR. SEXTON

Will any provision be made in the Estimates for next year?

MR. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

I have already stated that the matter is engaging our attention; but nothing can be done this year.
