HC Deb 06 November 1884 vol 293 cc1120-1
MR. O'BRIEN

I wish to ask the Solicitor General for Ireland a Question as to which I do not think he will require Notice. It is, Whether, at the trial of Mr. Fitzgerald yesterday, 19 Catholic jurors were ordered by the Crown to stand by; and, whether, at the trial of Messrs. Cornwall and Kirwan the other day in Dublin, no juror was ordered to stand by; and, whether he can offer any explanation of the difference in the mode of procedure?

THE SOLICITOR GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. WALKER)

I am informed that 19 persons were challenged by the prisoner, and 18 were ordered to stand back by the Crown, and that there were three Roman Catholics on the jury. Beyond that I know nothing.
