HC Deb 04 November 1884 vol 293 c906
SIR FREDERICK MILNER

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether, in order to facilitate the return of the expedition from Khartoum, and to avoid the most serious complications in the future, Her Majesty's Government are taking any steps towards opening out a Railway from Suakin to Berber?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

This question relating to the railway from Suakin to Berber was one which was fully considered and discussed with Lord Wolseley before he left England, and had been under his consideration before. There is no intention at present of making any further preparation for the construction of that railway.
