HC Deb 09 May 1884 vol 287 c1852
MR. LEAMY

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether any of the State-aided emigrants from Ireland, who were in a state of distress in Toronto in February last, are still in the same state; and, if so, whether the Government will take measures for their relief, and enable them to return to Ireland?

MR. TREVELYAN

No Report as to any distress among State-aided emigrants at Toronto has reached the Irish Government later than that which related to the month of February last. I have desired that the Colonial Office be asked to make inquiry on the subject,

MR. SEXTON

When does the right hon. Gentleman hope to receive a Report on the matter?

MR. TREVELYAN

I do not know yet. I wrote about it immediately that the hon. Member for Waterford put his Question the first time.
