HC Deb 02 May 1884 vol 287 c1159
MR. DAWSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade, Whether he is aware that Captain the Hon. C. F. Crofton has been nominated for a place on the Irish Lights Board; whether Captain Crofton holds the position of Harbour Master of Kingstown under the Board of Works; and, whether, being a Government Officer, he is eligible to be a Commissioner of Irish Lights?

MR. CHAMBERLAIN

I was not aware of the nomination referred to, as the Commissioners are not required to inform, and never do inform, the Board of Trade of the nomination or election of members of their body; and I do not know the position of the gentleman named in the Question; but, so far as I am aware, there is nothing in the fact of Captain Crofton holding a Government appointment to make him ineligible as a Commissioner of Irish Lights.
