HC Deb 01 May 1884 vol 287 cc1051-2
MR. A. ROSS

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whe- ther the women and children captured by Osman Digna at Sinkat have been rescued from slavery; and, if not, whether the Government are still continuing their efforts to attain that object; and, whether any Papers on the subject will be shortly laid upon the Table of the House?

LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICE

The authorities have received instructions to do all they can in this matter. At the same time, I cannot give any great hopes as to the result. The hon. Member will find what has passed on the subject in the Papers just laid before Parliament.
