HC Deb 10 March 1884 vol 285 cc1051-2
SIR WALTER B. BARTTELOT

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether any telegrams have been received from General Gordon respecting the present position of Khartoum; and, if so, whether the noble Marquess would communicate them to the House?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

Many and voluminous telegrams have been recently received from General Gordon; but I cannot say that I have received any bearing on the present state of Khartoum. If there were, I cer- tainly could not answer a Question of this sort without Notice.
