HC Deb 21 July 1884 vol 290 cc1742-3
MR. GORST

asked the Under Secretary of State for India, Whether he is now in possession of the information respecting the periods and cost of the annual migration of the Government of India from Calcutta to Simla, which on the 1st of May last he promised to ask for from the Government of India; and, whether he will lay upon the Table of the House, a Return showing the annual dates since the transfer of the Government of India to the Crown in 1858, of the migration of the Government of India at Calcutta to Simla, and the dates of its return to Calcutta, and the extra annual cost upon the taxpayers of India in consequence of this annual migration of Government?

MR. J. K. CROSS

said, no reply had yet been received from the Government of India to the despatch sent to them after the hon. and learned Member asked his Question on the 1st of May. The Return would take some time to prepare, as the accounts of former years were not compiled in the manner now adopted.
