HC Deb 18 February 1884 vol 284 c1205
MR. ASHMEAD - BARTLETT

I wish to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs a Question of which he has had private Notice—namely, Whether the Sultan of Turkey, as the Sovereign of Egyptian territory, has given his assent to the abandonment of the Soudan; and, whether there is any precedent for thus compelling a vassal to give away the territories of his Sovereign?

LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICE

I only received Notice of this Question a short time ago; and as it refers to a search for precedents, I think the hon. Member will feel that I am not making an unreasonable request if I ask him to place the Question on the Paper tomorrow.
