HC Deb 04 December 1884 vol 294 c624
MR. H. TOLLEMACHE

asked Mr. Attorney General, Whether, in view of the proposed assimilation of the County and Borough Franchise, and the contraction of electoral areas in many counties, the Government contemplate any modification of the scale of expenditure for county elections laid down by the Corrupt Practices Act of 1883?

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir HENRY JAMES),

in reply, said, that, as far as he knew, the Government had not considered this question. It was not intended to legislate on the subject until a General Election had given them some experience.
