HC Deb 01 April 1884 vol 286 c1288
MR. MACFARLANE

I beg to ask the Prime Minister, Whether the Government have any proposal to make for to-morrow with the view of proceeding with the Franchise Bill? I have every reason to believe that with regard to the second reading of the Sale of Intoxicating Liquors on Sunday Bill, which will be the first Order of the Day, that there is an intention to talk out the Bill, and, if so, the Sitting will be practically useless.

MR. GLADSTONE

It is not our intention to propose to take the debate on the Franchise Bill to-morrow, in as much as the subject of debate for the day is one of some importance, and it has not been the usage to set aside the Orders for Wednesday for the sake of proceeding with Government measures.
