HC Deb 29 May 1883 vol 279 c1103
MR. ASHMEAD-BARTLETT

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether Her Majesty's Government have addressed a protest to the Government of the French Republic against the attack upon the territory of the Queen of Madagascar; and, whether he can give the House any further information regarding the French invasion?

LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICE

Sir, no protest has been addressed to the French Government. Her Majesty's Government have received no further information respecting the capture of Mayunga than is contained in the telegram from Colonel Miles which I read to the House on Thursday last.
