CROPPERasked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, If Her Majesty's Government have any information from the Minister at Rio de Janeiro as to a gigantic scheme of emigration said to have been arranged by which Chinese Coolies are to be introduced into Brazil; and, whether a Treaty to this effect is about to be signed by the Marquis Tseng, on behalf of the Chinese Government, and on what conditions said Coolies are to be introduced into Brazil?
§ LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICENo such scheme has been reported by Her Majesty's Minister at Rio, nor has Her Majesty's Government any knowledge that a Treaty of this nature is being negotiated by the Marquis Tseng, who is the Chinese Representative in this country.
