HC Deb 26 May 1882 vol 269 cc1705-6
SIR H. DRUMMOND WOLFF (in the absence of Mr. GORST)

asked the Secretary of State for the Home De- partment, Whether he is now aware that the speech delivered by Mr. Davitt at Manchester was prepared in manuscript, and copies thereof were handed to the reporters, and that the reports in the Manchester papers are therefore identical; whether Mr. Davitt's statement that he had already broken the conditions of his ticket-of-leave is not, in fact, correct; and, what steps, if any, Her Majesty's Government propose to take in relation thereto?

SIR WILLIAM HARCOURT

I have no information to give the House on the subject of the first part of the Question; and as to the second part, I have no knowledge that Michael Davitt has broken the conditions of his ticket-of-leave; and, therefore, it is not necessary that I should take any steps.
