HC Deb 02 March 1882 vol 266 c1935
COLONEL BARNE

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether he has yet decided as to arming the British Army with Magazine Rifles?

MR. CHILDERS

No, Sir; no decision has yet been arrived at. The Committee on this subject has made to me several valuable Reports, the last dated a few weeks ago; but up to the present time I am not satisfied as to any of the arms which have been under trial, whether repeating or magazine rifles. Experiments are still going on.
