HC Deb 29 June 1882 vol 271 cc776-7
MR. PLUNKET

I desire to ask the right hon. and learned Gentleman a Question of which I have given him private Notice. It is, Whether it is true, as stated in the newspapers, that the rifles seized at Clerkenwell recently have the same stamp upon them as the rifles found near the scene of the murder of Mr. Bourke and Corporal Wallace, and the rifles seized in Clare sometime ago?

SIR WILLIAM HARCOURT

I find that the rifles seized at Clare on the 9th of January were all stamped near the butt with a shamrock similar to that upon those seized in London, and on the stock, close to the lock-plate, there is a further stamp of "g.g." in small letters, and I find that both the Sniders used in the murder of Mr. Bourke and Corporal Wallace were similarly stamped with a shamrock.
