HC Deb 26 June 1882 vol 271 cc393-4
MR. J. G. TALBOT

asked the President of the Local Government Board, Whether, in pursuance of an order of the Managers of the Metropolitan Asylum District, he has received from the managers a Copy of a Memorandum on Vaccination, by Dr. Sweeting, late medical superintendent of the Fulham Small. Pox Hospital, addressed to the managers; and, whether, considering the importance of informing the public mind upon the subject, he has any objection to lay a Copy of this Memorandum upon the Table of the House?

MR. DODSON

Sir, a Copy of the Memorandum addressed by Dr. Sweeting to the Managers of the Metropolitan Asylum District has been received by the Local Government Board, and I quite agree with the hon. Member as to the importance of informing the public mind on the subject of vaccination. The Memorandum, however, is not even addressed to the Local Government Board, but to a local authority, and it would not be consistent with the ordinary practice of the Board to present such a document with a view to its being printed and circulated at the public expense.
