HC Deb 16 June 1882 vol 270 cc1408-9
CAPTAIN PRICE

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty, Why the appointment of Inspector of Machinery in the Channel Squadron has been done away with, and by whose advice?

MR. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

There has been no reduction in the establishment of Inspectors of Machinery. The officer who held that position in the Channel Squadron has been transferred to Bermuda, taking the place of the chief engineer at that station, whose time had expired; the reason being that it had been found from experience that there is more need for the services of an officer of that rank at Bermuda than in the Channel Squadron.
