HC Deb 13 July 1882 vol 272 cc271-2
SIR MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH

asked the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, Whether the Governor of New Zealand has furnished to the Colonial Office the Report respecting-the native disturbances of 1879 and 1880, and the measures taken by the Government of New Zealand in consequence of them, which appears by the New Zealand Parliamentary Papers of 1881 to have been required by Lord Kimberley's Despatch of 22nd October 1880; and, whether this Report and the subsequent Despatches on the subject will be presented to Parliament?

MR. EVELYN ASHLEY

Yes, Sir; the Governor of New Zealand has furnished the Report to which the Question refers, and it will, together with other Papers, be soon presented to Parliament. As I said in the House on the 19th of June, the delay has arisen from the fact of Papers being awaited from New Zealand which will complete the history of the transactions, and especially the Bill for disposing of the trial of the Chief Te Whiti.
