JUSTIN M'CARTHY (for Mr. SEXTON)asked Mr. Attorney General for Ireland, Whether it is true, as stated in the public press, that a writ for rent was served on the 16th instant, in Kilmainham Prison, on Mr. Patrick Fury, a person detained in the prison in question by virtue of a warrant of the Lord Lieutenant, issued under the authority of the Act for the better protection of Person and Property in Ireland; whether, if the fact be as stated, this proceeding took place with the knowledge and sanction of the prison authorities; and, whether it was a legal proceeding?
§ THE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. LAW)It is true that a writ for rent was served on the 16th 1506 instant, in Kilmainham Prison, on Mr. Patrick Fury, a prisoner under the Act for the Better Protection of Person and Property in Ireland. This proceeding took place with the knowledge and sanction of the prison authorities, and is quite legal.
