HC Deb 16 June 1881 vol 262 c637
MR. BIRKBECK

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether Her Majesty's Government, in the negotiations for a new Treaty with France, will endeavour to have the prohibitive duties on English caught fish removed, in order that English fishermen may be placed in as advantageous a position in French ports as the French fishermen are at present in those of England?

SIR CHARLES W. DILKE

The subject of the duties on English caught fish has already been discussed with the French High Commissioners. The proceedings of the Commission are, however, confidential; and I am unable, therefore, to state at present the manner in which the representations made to the French Commissioners on this subject were received.
