HC Deb 09 June 1881 vol 262 c116
SIR H. DRUMMOND WOLFF

asked when the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland would be in his place in the House; and, whether the Secretary of State for War ought not to be present to answer Questions referring to the disposition of troops in Ireland? Such a Question had just been put by the hon. Member for Leitrim.

MR. GLADSTONE

The Secretary of State for War will be in his place to-night, and the Chief Secretary for Ireland will, I hope, be in his on Monday. The hon. Member for Leitrim only repeated a report, and did not bring forward any verifying circumstances whatever; and I am not at all sure that the Secretary of State for War or for any other Department would be prepared to answer a Question of that kind at a moment's notice.
