HC Deb 07 February 1881 vol 258 c261
MR. METGE

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If it is the case that while in England out-door relief may be granted to the family of any person confined in a gaol, in Ireland there is no such power; whether such want of power to grant out-door relief does not arise from the provisions of the Act of 1847; and, whether, if this is the case, he will take any steps to amend the provisions of that Act?

MR. W. E. FORSTER,

in reply, said, that in Ireland the family of a person confined in gaol would be received into the workhouse if they were destitute, and if in ill-health out-door relief could be supplied to them in the ordinary way.
