§ MR. DODSONSir, it is not quite correct to say that the inquiry I undertook should be made was into the comparative results of aggregation in large hospitals, and treatment locally of persons suffering from small-pox and other contagious diseases. What I said was that it had been alleged that the aggregation of small-pox patients in the Metropolitan asylums had been attended with an outbreak of small-pox in the neighbouring houses, and that I would cause inquiry to be made with a view of ascertaining whether this allegation was well founded. Accordingly, I directed such inquiry as appeared necessary, and two of the Medical Inspectors of the Board have been engaged upon it; but I have not yet received their Reports.
