HC Deb 31 July 1879 vol 248 c1703
MR. W. HOLMS

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, What steps the Government intend to take in order to give effect to the Resolution of the House upon the Motion of the honourable Member for Plymouth— That it is desirable that those functions of the Executive Government which especially relate to Commerce and Agriculture should be administered by a distinct Department, under the direction of a Principal Secretary of State, who shall be a Member of the Cabinet?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

Sir, I am afraid the only answer I can give is that the matter will receive the consideration of Her Majesty's Government.
