HC Deb 21 March 1878 vol 238 cc1757-8
MR. O'DONNELL

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty, Whether the Government is prepared to refer to a Committee of Members of this House the claims of Mr. John Clare to compensation for the alleged appropriation by certain Admiralty officials of his designs for the construction of iron-ships of the "Warrior" type of iron-clad?

MR. W. H. SMITH,

in reply, said, he was not prepared to do anything of the sort. The case of Mr. Clare had been fully gone into by two of his Predecessors, and he saw no reason for further inquiry.
