HC Deb 05 March 1878 vol 238 c758
MR. OWEN LEWIS

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, If the statement in the "Daily Telegraph" of March 4th, that General Ignatieff has threatened to have the dragoman of the British Embassy at Constantinople shot, is correct; and, if so, whether Her Majesty's Government have taken any steps for the protection of his life?

MR. BOURKE

It appears that the dragoman of the British Embassy mentioned that certain expressions were used towards him by General Ignatieff which were not of a friendly character. There is no reason to suppose that the dragoman's life is in danger.
