HC Deb 11 April 1878 vol 239 c1092
SIR ARTHUR GUINNESS

asked the Secretary of State for War, If he is prepared to allow applications for retirement on the part of Clerks, Royal Engineer Department, to stand over until the Royal Warrant for their branch is promulgated?

COLONEL STANLEY

Sir, there seems to be no good reason why the retirements, which can only be permitted to a limited extent, should not be proceeded with, without waiting for the promulgation of the Warrant. I have reason to believe some of the gentlemen concerned are anxious to avail themselves at once of the privilege offered.
