HC Deb 06 July 1877 vol 235 c812
MR. RAIKES

explained, that he had, on a former occasion, stated that a sum of £117,000 had been spent in floating the company, and that Mr. Albert Grant appeared, to be under the impression that what he said was that he had received that amount. He had since investigated the matter, and he found that it was computed that a sum variously estimated from £103,000 to £170,000 had been expended, if not wasted, in promoting the company; but he also found that Mr. Grant was stated to have received only the ordinary and legitimate commission of 2½ per cent for having introduced the debentures, and that there was nothing to warrant the conclusion that he had appropriated the sum mentioned to his own purposes.

Bill read the third time, and passed, with Amendments.
