HC Deb 06 August 1877 vol 236 cc462-3
MR. RYLANDS

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether he is aware that some County Court Judges are in the habit of taking references from advocates practising before them, and from other parties, for which such County Court Judges receive payment in addition to their fees; and, whether such practice is sanctioned by the Home Office?

MR. ASSHETON CROSS

I am not aware that any such practice is going on. Certainly it has not been sanctioned by the Home Office.
