HC Deb 04 April 1876 vol 228 c1179
Mr. JAMES

asked the Postmaster General, If any classification is contemplated in the pay of the female Clerks at present employed in the Post Office Savings Bank Department of the Post Office; and, if so, on what basis it is to be made, and how soon it is to take effect?

LORD JOHN MANNERS,

in reply, said, the classification of the female clerks in the Savings Bank department would be shortly made. The proportion of rates of pay of the different classes, as authorized by the Treasury, would be found in page 543 of the Estimates of the current year, and the clerks would be promoted according to their proved proficiency during their period of probation.
