HC Deb 24 June 1875 vol 225 c436
MR. PLUNKETT

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether, considering that Adjutants of Volunteers have to perform harder duty than Adjutants of Militia, he will put the former on as favourable a footing as the latter in regard to pension?

MR. GATHORNE HARDY,

in reply, said, he was not prepared to admit that adjutants of Volunteers had harder duties to perform than those of adjutants of Militia, in addition to which the duties of the last-named class of officers were certainly the more responsible. The new localization scheme had put additional duties on the adjutants of Militia, and the rate of their retiring allowances had been fixed accordingly. He was not prepared to offer the same terms to adjutants of Volunteers.
