HC Deb 23 July 1874 vol 221 cc549-50
MR. GREGORY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Whether he is aware that the promotion of the Clerks in the Chancery Office of the Paymaster General has not been carried out in accordance with the twenty third section of the Court of Chancery Funds Act, and why there has been a suspension of such promotion in the regular course?

MR. W. H. SMITH

, in reply, said, he was aware that the promotion of the clerks had not been carried out in accordance with the Act; but the Treasury were unwilling to make any change until they knew what the requirements of the service would be under the new system. Permanent alterations had been suspended in regard to those offices until the Royal Commission which had been appointed should have reported.
