HC Deb 24 March 1873 vol 215 cc14-5
MR. RAIKES

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether the recent resignation of Her Majesty's Government has produced any change in the official emoluments of the present Attorney General, in consequence of the Treasury Minute which has lately modified those emoluments in the case of Law Officers of the Crown appointed subsequently to 1872?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

in reply, said, that the event alluded to by the hon. Gentleman would not produce any change in the official emoluments of the Attorney General. The change in the emoluments of the Law Officers of the Crown was brought about mainly by the Act of last Session, and the Treasury Minute had no force except by that Act, which expressly exempted his hon. and learned Friend from its operation. His hon. and learned Friend held his office by a Patent which was granted some years ago, which was still in full force and virtue.
