HC Deb 23 June 1873 vol 216 c1248
SIR CHARLES DILKE

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether there is any foundation for a statement that has recently been made by some newspapers, that Her Majesty's Government are considering a project for removing the Duke of York's School to the country, and converting the buildings into barracks for Cavalry and Artillery?

MR. CARDWELL

Sir, it has long been in contemplation to remove the barracks from Knightsbridge, and various places have been proposed to which they might be removed. The Royal Commission on Military Education recommended the removal into the country of the Duke of York's School, and that has given rise to a suggestion that the site might be made available for the purpose in question; but no plan of the kind has been adopted by the Government.
