HC Deb 21 March 1872 vol 210 cc392-3
MR. PARKER

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether the Master and Servant (Wages) Bill is intended to be in any way applicable to the industries of the Shetland Islands; and, if not, when he hopes to introduce a Bill that will be so applicable?

MR. BRUCE

said, in reply, that the Bill would be applicable to the Shetland Islands, as well as to other portions of the United Kingdom. There were, however, certain peculiar circumstances connected with those Islands which had made it expedient to have a separate and fuller inquiry into the condition of labour there, and until the Report on the subject had been received, it was not possible to say what steps would be taken.
