HC Deb 15 March 1870 vol 199 cc1961-2
DR. LUSH

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, If his attention has been drawn to an article in "The Daily News" of the 12th instant, describing an exhibition in which a child of tender years is carried strapped to the back of a female performer along a lofty tightrope, to the endangering of both lives; and, if he proposes to take steps to prevent such an exhibition for the future?

MR. BRUCE

My attention, Sir, was drawn to the matter by the Chief Commissioner of Police, and the proprietors of the exhibition immediately acceded to a suggestion of the Chief Commissioner, and the child who was exhibited by the female performer has not since taken any share in the exhibition. With respect to the remaining part of the performance, every care will be taken to make it as little perilous as possible.
