§ MR. ACLANDsaid, he wished to ask the President of the Poor Law Board, Whether he will be enabled to lay upon the Table of the House, before the close of the Session, the information which he proposed to obtain from Foreign Governments concerning the burdens on real property in their particular Countries, and the aggregate of local as compared with Imperial taxation?
§ MR. GOSCHEN, in reply, said, he should be prepared to lay the information asked for upon the Table before the close of the Session. Papers had been received from different foreign countries with reference to their local taxation, and the result would be embodied in tables for the information of the House. Of these, the first would show the local expenditure incurred in this country and the different foreign countries from which Returns had been received; the second would exhibit the progress of local taxation from the beginning of the century until now, as far as this was available; the third would show the taxation, local and Imperial, falling respectively upon lands, houses, and other kinds of property; the fourth 1277 would show the information received from France, Prussia, Austria, Hungary, Russia, Holland, and Belgium; and, lastly, the tables would show the comparative burdens upon all the countries in Europe from which information had been obtained.
